Dodge 5.9L Cummins Fuel Injectors

Be very careful when purchasing Fuel Injectors for your 12 valve Cummins Turbo Diesel. I found a set on Ebay for approximately $200 from Pensacola Fuel Injection out of Florida. I asked what the specifications of the injectors were and they had no idea. They say they have been selling this injector for years, yet they don't know any of the specifications. At that point I should have ran away!

I decided to order them, as they were about $250 cheaper than anyone else. Well it didn't take long to find out why. They are not designed for the Dodge 12 valve Cummins as they advertise. I researched the part numbers after finding out that my fuel mileage was cut by 50% after installing their injectors. The research led to my suspicions that they are injectors designed for Marine and Heavy Equipment applications. This where the heart of the problem lies.

Marine and heavy equipment motors use different pistons and different spray patterns than the light truck application. They will give you a substantial increase in Power, Exhaust Gas Temperatures, Black Smoke, and a decrease in fuel mileage. In my case about a 50% loss in mileage. After a week of running these injectors they are coming out.  By their own admission, they state they are not designed for a light truck application, yet they advertise them as performance injectors for 1994-1998 Dodge Ram 12 valve Cummins vehicles.

After emailing them to express my dissatisfaction, they tell me it impossible to buy aftermarket performance injectors with the correct spray pattern for the Dodge Cummins motor. Really, then how did I just order a set? Don't be fooled! There are aftermarket injectors with the correct spray pattern out there, they are more money, but well worth the extra.

Pensacola approach is; well they fit the motor, so they will work even though they are not designed for the application. Read postings on Diesel Forums, you will see the same statements. They are marine injectors and not designed for Dodge pickups. They will work, increase power, smoke, exhaust temperatures and decrease your mileage.

I will never purchase anything again from Pensacola Fuel Injection, and have created this blog to warn others of their misleading information.

  1. Well I purchased new injectors from another company and man what a difference. Less smoke, 300 degree Lower EGT's, runs smoother, and has same power. Obviously something different about Pensacola's injectors. But they will never admit it.
